Why We’re Moving Away from Tip Culture at Oddie’s

It’s not that I don’t appreciate generosity — I do, deeply. But I believe great service shouldn’t feel like it comes with an IOU. That’s why Oddie’s has moved away from “tip-flation” and built the value of labor right into our pricing.

Unlearning the Tip Jar Mentality

A few months ago, I removed the tip jar from our counter. I also took the tip option off our Square checkout system. Not because I don’t value service — but because I believe it’s already part of what you’re paying for.

I don’t want anyone to feel like they’re leaving owing me something extra. I want the exchange to be even: you pay for your meal, and you receive not only the food, but the full experience and hospitality that comes with it.

Service Is Part of Professionalism

In many industries, we don’t expect to tip for good service — it’s simply part of the job. I want Odie’s to carry that same mindset. My team and I take pride in the food we prepare, the way it’s presented, and the warmth with which it’s served.

When you pay at Odie’s, your total already reflects the cost of labor and the care that went into your meal. There’s nothing “extra” you need to add to show appreciation — it’s already baked in.

A Simpler, More Honest Way to Do Business

By setting clear, all-inclusive pricing, my hope is to make your dining experience simpler and more transparent. No mental math at the register. No pressure. Just straightforward, honest value.

And for me? That means I can focus on what matters most — making sure every bite you take at Oddie’s tastes like the love and intention that went into it.
